Reading Witch

I have a few more Halloween cards to share before I put the supplies away. This girl was one of the many who was colored up last year and didn't land on a card until now.

Thanks for looking! Spicey Cat Chick =^..^=

Gotta Go to OSC

I'd hoped to get this posted earlier, but the day flew by. I'm hosting the challenge over at One Stop Crafts this week and offered a photo inspiration challenge. I created several cards and will post one each day. Today I'll feature my Gotta Go Girl. Stop by every day this week to see the details of the other cards pictured.

Photo Inspirations
One Stop Crafts Challenge #96
There are 2 photos in my challenge, and for this card I focused on the caterpillar image.
My mom was a Kindergarten teacher and I'd help her scour the ditches near our home every fall for these striped beauties. She would use them as a science lesson and taught the kids about their miraculous transformation into Monarch butterflies. Even after she retired, she continued teaching the lesson. She spent her last few weeks in a nursing home and I was blessed to find a caterpillar to bring in. She taught the story to all the staff members during her stay. The anniversary of her passing is in a week, so I chose my challenge photos to honor her. For this card, I picked up the colors of the caterpillar and also a children's book (detailed further down)

365 Cards Day 144 ~ Best Seller (inspired by book cover)
Image reminded me of the children’s book Gotta Go! Gotta Go! by Sam Swope. I thought it would also lend to a clever sentiment to match the image.
Saturday Challenge #99 ~ Clean and Simple

My Creation
I made this card for a co-worker. She's a college student and helps us out during her breaks. She's such an asset to the team we really miss her contributions to the team.

I colored the image with Copics and added Stickles for a bit of sparkle.

One Stop Craft DT Card ~ Summer Fun

There’s a new challenge over at One Stop Crafts this week from the awesome Lindsey. She’s challenging us to think ‘Summer Fun’. With the heat waves we’ve had in my corner of the world, it’s not hard to think summer. I’m not much of a heat person, so I had to try and cool down with a waterey summer card. I love this cute mermaid from Elizabeth Dulemba. She has LOTS of FREEBIE images. She creates them as coloring pages for kids, but they work PERFECTLY for card making and other paper crafts.

I hope you can play along. Link up your card at the OSC Challenge Blog and you could win an awesome prize from Dew Dropz. Thanks for rocking our Pattern Challenge last week. We had 232 participants ~ and they all rocked it!

Sketch Inspiration
Truly Scrumptious Challenge #38: Sketch plus added challenge of Golden Oldie (use a stamp that’s been neglected) I rotated the sketch and cut out my ‘wavy’ DP, but the image covered most of my waves. Oops. I’ve been ‘collecting’ Dulemba images for over a year and seldom get to play with them.

Color Inspiration
365 Cards Day 162 ~ Color Scheme
I focused mostly on the orange and blue from the combo. The green is picked up on the HB embellishment and the flowered DP. I tried to give my mermaid auburn tresses which is how I read the first color. Black was used as the plain image and as the flourish inside the card.

Royal Fairy Friend

I had another sweet reading fairy from Elizabeth Dulemba printed out and wanted to give her a home. I have so many book lovers in my life I know she’ll find a new home soon. Ah, my FAVORITE color combination – purple and green. They are just so regal and calming. I had fun creating a few of my own embellishments – I hope you like it!

Sketch Inspiration ~ Midnight Madness Week Sketch #13
Another older sketch I’ve been ‘saving’ for the perfect card. That would be my way of saying I missed out on the live challenge and can’t pass up on any of Priscilla’s great sketches.

Color Inspiration ~ 365 Cards Day 124 ~ Shades of Purple

Inspiration
The grid in the background makes me think of books an the circles are the happy faces reading them.

Image Detail
I colored my girl with Copics and added Stickles to her wings for added glitz.
My large faux button is just layered circles with a few dew drops added as ‘holes’. The smaller buttons (the kind without holes) were made with large clear Dew Drops. I adhered them to DP scraps (with a large glue dot) and then just trimmed off the excess. Custom buttons to match my paper – ta da!

I used the leftover pieces of my DP and added a sticker sentiment.

Distressed Yet Sweet Reading Fairy

The crafts blogs are all abuzz with the 100th Challenge over at Color Throw Down. It was the perfect launching point for me to get back to my craftivities. I took inspiration from several other blogs and ended up with the perfect birthday card for a special 9 year old. She loves to read and the color pink, I think I managed to pull it together. Enjoy the weekend!

Reading Leprechauns

I can’t remember which of the wonderful crafty blogs pointed me to this AWESOME website for images….and if you can believe it, FREE images. A huge thank you to whoever shared the link and major thanks to Elizabeth for offering such great images for everyone to use. They are perfect for card making; some have even been made into ‘real’ stamps at The Greeting Farm; or as coloring sheets for kids. I love that there are lots of school/reading themed images. I’m an avid reader and like that I can create themed cards for my friends. The 2 cards I made here are for librarian friends. Stop over to see Elizabeth Dulemba’s work at http://dulemba.com/blogger.html. Please see the great challenge links for each card. There’s still time to play along!
