Fall Sketch at One Stop Crafts

Wahoo! It's Saturday which means there's a new challenge over at One Stop Crafts. Val is our hostess this week and she came up with an awesome sketch. Fall is my favorite season and the colors always calm me. As a fur baby momma, six in the herd and this weekend we are fostering 3 tiny babies with no momma, I always like making cards with kitties on them. This card was fun as I got to play with my nesties and new Max and Whiskers stack from Basic Grey. I stepped out of my Copic coloring standard and broke out my neglected set of Stampin Up markers.

Party Sheep for Jenna

Sparkle and glitz are my favorite way to dress up a card. My niece will be 17 next week and I’m struggling between cards that are too little girl or serious adult. Unless I find my mojo this weekend, this will be what she receives. It’s fun, sparkly AND in her school colors. There were lots of great challenges to keep me rolling. Elzybells Sheep Celebration

When I saw this sketch it made me think of my cute trio of sheep ready to party. I had this cute card to send out after I bought a gift magazine subscription. Of course, I’d made my own card and found this under a stack of papers. I though it would quick to alter into a personalized card and I was right! Scroll down to see the before and after photos. The sentiment is part of this cute set from Elzybells. In case you can't see it, it says "Let's party 'til the cows come home.'

Here's my 'recylced' elements. The card on the right is pretty cute as is, but I wanted to cover it up (I have no other plans to send out American Girl as a gift). The card on the left is what I came up with.

I just covered up the preprinted parts with DP and VOILA, you'd never know it was recylced.

Elzybell Kitty Princess

I don’t always get to play with the Elzybell challenges which means my EB stamps are often neglected. I love the quality and images so much, I really need to dig them out more often. This is a busy birthday month in my world and I have 4 very special little girls celebrating (3 this week alone). Last night I set my brain to 4-8 year old girly them and tried to customize the card to the child. This is my sweet girly girl Sami. The colors don’t scream girly, so I wanted to add lots of sparkle for the princess. Replacing the button holes with gems and a few red gems in her crown certainly fits the bill! The solid white piece is glittered cardstock so the card is very sparkly.

Tri-Shutter Father’s Day from the Fur Babies

I have a good friend who is animal crazy as I am. She currently lives with 1 dog, 2 cats and 2 ‘sister cats’ (her mother recently moved in with her and brought her 2 babies). She asked me to make a Father’s Day card for her hubby from the furry babies (they do have 2 adult ‘human’ children, but they are on their own to impress Dad). She let me use her Basset Hound stamp since I didn't have any. The only 'kids' pictured are Boogity (the dog), Roxy (grey cat) and Butch (orange cat). I’ve wanted to try the tri-shutter technique for awhile and when CCEE issued the challenge, I dove in. My template turned out perfectly, but for some reason I had issues with the actual cardstock. Thankfully I covered the base with other DP so you can’t see all my ‘re-folds’. I think the Scor-Pal/Scor-It needs to move up on my wish list. My bone folder and ruler just didn’t give me the best results. That being said, I still love the card. Inspiration SCS Try a New Technique ~ Tri Shutter Card CCEE Challenge ~ Tri Shutter Card My Creation

This will be in several photos so you can see the ‘progression’ as the card is opened.

I used my Father Calligraphy stamp for the front image. You may have seen this stamp with the complete verse running along the right side of Father. I did the tape trick to ‘mask’ that out. You just take a strip of regular tape and cover the part of a stamp you don’t want to see (sticky side on the rubber). Ink up the stamp (the tape will be inked as well) and the PULL off the tape before stamping on paper. VOILA!

There's a great tutorial over on www.splitcoaststampers.com. The final card looks lots harder than it really is. A scoring mat would make it MUCH easier (at least for me), but it can be done the old fashioned way.

Corrosive Window Kitty

I know I seldom make a card incorporating only one challenge, but it can happen. I had a few images from ElzyBells already stamped and colored. The Corrosive Challenge sketch was perfect for my napping kitty.

Elzybell Kitty for Doc Carlson

I live in a fairly small town (depends on your perspective) of about 2500 people. There are good things and bad things about this (for example everything, except the bars, are closed up by 10 pm – grocery stores, gas station, etc.) and LOTS of good things. One of the best things in my town is our local veterinarian, Doc Carlson. With seven kitten children, he knows us quite well. Our baby, Otis, is dealing with a fluke illness. Not sure what it is, but Doc Carlson has gone above and beyond trying to help him out. I’ll spare you the details, but Otis is doing better but still not completely healthy. I wanted to make a card to send Doc Carlson just as a thank you for all he does. I recently received an order from Elzybells and was happy to ink up one of the stamps. Of course, I incorporated a few challenges along the way and am thrilled with the final result. (Please see the Ins and Outs for links to the challenge websites and feel free to join in the fun).

Elzybells Challenge

I guess since I took the time to create this blog, I should start posting my creations on it, instead of letting it get filled with cyber-cobwebs. Just bear with me as I continue to ‘tweak’ some things. I’m still playing around with a header, but there’s no sense to hold off postings. I’ll still post most of my creations in my SplitcoastStampers Gallery since I do so many challenges. I plan to keep my posts pretty simple ~ a photo of the creation, basic details, and a brief description. I know most blog hoppers are just looking for inspiration and the details; my personal blog will continue my chatty ways. Here’s a card I created for the Sketch Challenge on the Elzybells blog. I stumbled on this line over a year ago and am in LOVE! The company is based in the UK and while some images are available in the US, the best come from across the pond. The stamps are larger and have a ‘hefty’ wood block. Although Elizabeth recently said the company will be switching primarily to acrylic stamps for easier storage and savings on shipping. I understand, but I’ll miss the old style.

I had a great relationship with Dad and as the only daughter (and the baby) was ‘somewhat’ spoiled.
