King of the Grill

The basics of this card are thanks to my awesome SU demonstrator from her monthly card class. I held off the final touches until I got home as I wanted to try using actual tinfoil for the background instead of silver paper. She had a sample with fancy silver craft foil, but I’m much too frugal for that. Guess what, the good old Reynolds variety worked perfectly! It was the heavy duty kind, but was still very fragile in craft terms. I figured it was a bonus to sharpen my trimmer blade when I had to size it down. I was too lazy to dig out my embossing folders and just used a scoring tool and ruler to create the grid.

This is the card for my dear father-in-law, who is truly a King of the Grill. It was a fitting card as his gift included packages of steak! I wonder if it would be too forward if we invited ourselves over? My in-laws spend lots of time hanging with family and friends in the summer. They are the gathering point for everyone and always have something yummy cooking on the grill.

Shiny tinfoil counts as bling, right???

My Creation

Image Detail
I love using the Watercolor Wonder crayons from SU, but have to admit I’m HORRIBLE at using the aqua painter. I have no control and have lots of ‘outside the lines’ moments. I’m never perfect at staying in the lines, but using the blending pen gives me more control.
Tip – to make clouds, you don’t need a fancy stencil. More than likely you have a scalloped circle punch or scissors in your stash. On this card, we punched a scalloped circle and used it as a mask to create random clouds. Just use a sponge, daub it in your favorite sky blue ink, lay the scalloped mask on your image, and sponge away from the mask to create a cloud line. Reposition the mask and work your way around the image. You could also just free hand a mask with a scalloped scissors.

Inside
Tip – If you use kitchen foil on your creations, lay the adhesive on the CS and NOT the back of the foil. That’s what I did for the front of the card, but gapped out by the inside. You can see the grooves from my tape runner.
