Baby Gift Flower Pot

I saw this idea years ago at a local craft store; back when decorating terra cotta flower pots was the rage. It’s become one of my standard baby gift items. It’s so easy to do and can be customized to commemorate any event. They would be cute centerpieces at a graduation, wedding, anniversary, etc. My first creations were a bit more primitive as I hand wrote the info on paper or free handed painting the name and stats with a paintbrush. I’ve moved on to using the computer and simply type up what I want and print it out, along with several digital photos. I recommend printing on basic copy lightweight copy paper as anything with a thickness may be difficult to adhere to the curved surface.

Simply paint your base coat and any designs (I’ve added clouds, squiggles or other random decorations), then figure out your layout of photos around the pot. I use basic Modge Podge (I prefer glossy) to adhere the pieces. Once everything is in place, you can add embellishments (stickers work great as do adhesive rhinestones). When everything is in place, cover the entire pot with 2-3 coats of Modge Podge. You’ll need to be careful with the photos and just dab the layers. When the paper gets wet, the colors might run a bit.

Once everything is dry, you can fill the flower pot with small gift items to complete the gift. If you are using it as a centerpiece, fill with whatever you’d like. The recipient of this gift keeps the flower pot in her daughters room and brings it out for a centerpiece every year at the birthday party (Hannah has a big sister who already received a custom pot). I love giving personalized gifts and these are so fun to make.
